In his first season at the collegiate level, Eddie Vanderdoes made seven starts. His 11 tackles in the game at Stanford were the most by a Bruin defensive lineman since 1992 and his season total of 39 tackles were the third-most ever by a Bruin freshman lineman. The Placer High School product was named to two premier Freshman All-America teams and was an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection by the coaches.
In his first year out of Los Alamitos High School, Alex Redmond came on to start all 13 games at offensive guard for the Bruins, matching the school record for most starts in a season by a true freshman position player. He received first-team Freshman All-America accolades from four publications and honorable mention all-conference honors from the Pac-12 coaches.
Just a year removed from Washington's Bellevue High School, Myles Jack burst onto the collegiate scene in 2013, earning consensus Freshman All-America honors. He was also named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year on both offense and defense, emerging as one of the most dynamic players in the nation.
