UCLA Sophomore Travis Reed to Transfer

LOS ANGELES - UCLA sophomore center/forward Travis Reed, a 6-7, 237-pounder who prepped at A. B. Miller High School in Fontana, has been granted his release from UCLA. He will remain at UCLA through the spring quarter before transferring to another school of his choice.

During his two-year (1997-99) career at UCLA, Reed appeared in 58 of UCLA's 64 games and started seven times, three as a freshman and on four occasions last season, with 14.1 minutes, 4.7 scoring and 2.7 rebound career averages, while shooting 50.9 from the field. As a sophomore in 1998-99, Reed appeared in all 31 games and averaged 15.9 minutes, 5.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and shot 50.0 from the field, and as a freshman in 1997-98, Reed played in 27 (of 33 games) and averaged 12.1 minutes, 4.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and shot 52.3 from the field. His career highs included 21 points vs. CS Northridge on Dec. 19, 1998 and 10 rebounds vs. CS Fullerton on Dec. 13, 1997 and Kentucky on March 20, 1998, in UCLA's 94-68 loss to eventual national champion Kentucky in the 1998 NCAA South Region Sweet 16.

"Travis requested his release and we granted it," said Bruin head coach Steve Lavin. "As a staff, we enjoyed coaching Travis and he is well-liked by his teammates. We will miss Travis, but wish him all the luck in his future endeavors."
