HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Bruins' women's volleyball team showed a taste of the future in their third match of the season as No. 18 ranked UCLA battled No. 13 Ohio State in a five game match before the Buckeyes pulled off the win, 1-15, 15-3, 11-15, 15-8, 15-11, in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center Sunday night.

The Bruins entered the match focused and looking to win their first game while the Buckeyes were 1-1 entering the match, upsetting No. 6 on Friday but losing to No. 14 Hawaii in straight games on Saturday.

Led by freshman outside hitter Ashley Bowles, who hit .395 and ended the night with a team-high 21 kills, the Bruins stunned the Buckeyes in the first game, 15-1. With the defensive strength of sophomore Michelle Quon and seven players over six-feet, UCLA hung on for as long as they could until succumbing in rally scoring. Junior outside hitter Rosie Snow led Ohio State with 27 kills and a .365 hitting percentage. Setter Jen Flynn contributed with the game's only double-double of 14 kills and 16 digs.

In the final match of the tournament, it took two hours and 42 minutes for No. 6 Florida to put away No. 14 Hawaii. But they still didn't win it all.

In front of a boisterous crowd of 5,536 (6,826 tickets issued) at the Stan Sheriff Center, the Gators defeated the Wahine, 16-14, 15-7, 11-15, 15-10. But due to the tie-breaker system used to determine the winning percentage of games won and games played, the Wahine walked away with the tournament's perpetual trophy. Florida went 2-1 and placed second in the tournament while Ohio State posted a 2-1 record to finish third.
