LOS ANGELES - The sixth-ranked USC women's volleyball team continued its dominance of UCLA on Friday night with a 30-25, 30-26, 30-21 victory over UCLA. The Bruins are now 11-5 (4-3 Pac-10), while the two-time defending NCAA Champions improve to 10-3 (5-2 Pac-10) with the victory.
The teams kept it close early on in game one, with the Bruins remaining within one point as late as 15-14 before USC put together a four-point run to seal the lead for good. In that opening game, Brittany Ringel led the Bruins with four kills on eight swings for a .375 attack percentage. As a team, the Bruins hit .174 to USC's .273 as the Women of Troy won the opening game by a score of 30-25. Keao Burdine led the Women of Troy with four kills in game one.
In game two, USC scored the first five points, but UCLA crept back to within one point at 10-9 and remained within a single point as late as 22-21, but the Bruins were unable to tie the game or take the lead. Colby Lyman had a team-high five kills in game two as the Bruins went to the break down two games to none, falling in game two by a score of 30-26.
Game three started the same as game two, with USC scoring five points before UCLA put a point on the board. Again, the Bruins climbed back into the game, this time tying the Women of Troy at 12 and 13 before USC scored six of the next seven points, taking a 19-14 lead. USC would never look back, taking the final game of the match by a score of 30-21.
Brittany Ringel was the only Bruin with double-figure kills, finishing with 11 kills in the match.
UCLA returns to action next Thursday, October 21, with a 7 pm match at Oregon. The match will be televised live on FOX Sports West 2 with Jim Watson and Mike Dodd calling the action. The Bruins will then travel to Corvallis, Ore., for a 7 pm match at Oregon State on Friday night.
