Bruins Host Arizona Schools at Drake Stadium

UCLA Welcomes Arizona Schools to Drake Stadium . . .
Third-ranked UCLA (10-1-3; 3-0-1 Pac-10) continues conference play this week as the Bruins host Arizona State (8-2-3; 2-0-1 Pac-10) this Friday at Drake Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m. and Arizona (4-7-2; 0-2-1 Pac-10) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. UCLA shutout both teams last year, defeating Arizona, 1-0 in Tucson and Arizona State 3-0 in Tempe. The Bruins are 5-1 all-time against the Sun Devils, winning the last three meetings. ASU checks in at No. 25 in the Soccer America rankings this week. UCLA has never lost to the Wildcats, posting a perfect 9-0 record.

Bruins Go the Distance With Stanford, Defeat Cal, 1-0 . . .
UCLA remained undefeated in conference play last week, going 1-0-1 against Stanford and Cal up in the Bay Area. In a match that traditionally decides the Pac-10 champion, the Bruins played to a 0-0 draw with Stanford on Friday at Maloney Field. Despite registering a number of scoring opportunities and outshooting the Cardinal, 24-14, the Bruins had to settle for the tie. UCLA regrouped to defeat Cal, 1-0 on Sunday. Bruin midfielder Sarah-Gayle Swanson scored the game's only goal in the 13th minute of action.

The Conference Standings . . .
The top-two teams in the Pac-10 will do battle this week as UCLA and ASU face off this Friday. Whichever team wins will have a big advantage heading into the last part of the conference season. UCLA, picked to finish second in the Pac-10 to start the year, is aiming for the fourth conference championship in the 11-year history of the program.

Bruins Remain at No. 3 Despite Stanford Tie . . .
Despite a 0-0 tie with unranked Stanford, UCLA was able to hold on to the No. 3 spot in the NSCAA/adidas poll this week The Bruins did fall a spot to No. 4 in the Soccer America poll this week. Regionally, the Bruins remained at No. 1 in the West, ahead of No. 2 Portland, No. 3 Santa Clara, No. 4 Pepperdine and No. 5 Washington.

UCLA Lineup Could See Changes With Injuries . . .
UCLA's trip to the Bay Area last week was a costly one in terms of injuries to key players. Both Stacy Lindstrom and Katie Rivera sustained injuries in the Bruins' tie with Stanford on Friday. In addition, Bruin goalkeeper Sarah Lombardo was forced to leave the Cal game on Sunday with an injury late in the second half. The status of these players for this week's action has not yet been determined.
