Sept. 22, 2002

Box Score

Los Angeles - The No. 3-ranked UCLA women's soccer team improved to 6-1 on the season Sunday, following a 4-0 shutout victory over Cal State Northridge at UCLA's Drake Stadium. With the loss, the Matadors fall to 1-6.

The Bruins didn't waste much time getting on the board, as forward Kim Devine managed to dribble past both a Northridge defender and goalkeeper for an empty net score in just the 13th minute of the match.

UCLA owned a 1-0 advantage until the 41:35 mark, when Bruin forward Crystal James blasted a hard shot that was actually saved by Northridge goalkeeper Jen Jasper. The ball however, was deflected right to Sarah-Gayle Swanson who was able to easily put the ball away to give UCLA a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

UCLA's third goal of the match came at the 69:25 mark when freshman midfielder Stacy Lindstrom headed in a rebound off a shot from forward Katie Rivera. Similar to the Bruins' second goal, Jasper was able to make the initial save, however the ball shot straight up in the air and Lindstrom got a head on it before Jasper was able to get up.

Bruin forward Lindsay Greco capped off the scoring for the Bruins at the 74:09 mark as she put away a perfect cross from Katherine Bjazevich to give UCLA a 4-0 advantage.

UCLA, which outshot Northridge, 19-3, improves to 2-1 all-time against the Matadors.

Next up for the Bruins will be a meeting with BYU on Sept. 25 at 1:00 p.m. That match will be at Frank W. Marshall Soccer Field at Drake Stadium.
