LOS ANGELES - After scoring three goals in two Bruin wins over the weekend, UCLA women's soccer player Danesha Adams was named Soccer America's Women's Player of the Week on Wednesday. UCLA men's player Maxwell Griffin was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week.
Adams, a junior from Shaker Heights, Ohio, was appearing in her first matches of the season after returning from the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Championships in Russia. She scored UCLA's first goal in a 2-1 victory over No. 3 Texas A&M on Friday evening. She came back on Sunday, scoring two more goals in the Bruins' 3-0 decision over No. 11 UConn.
Adams, who was awarded the Bronze Ball in Russia for finishing third in MVP balloting, was also named this week's Pac-10 Player of the Week. UCLA is 5-1 on the season.
In Friday's match, Griffin came off the bench to score both goals against 15th-ranked New Mexico. He broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 57th minute and then scored another a minute and a half later to record his first career multiple-goal game. The win was UCLA's first of the season and came against a team that made the finals of the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
In addition to his performance against New Mexico, Griffin started for UCLA against Oakland and helped the Bruins earn a 4-1 victory.
