UCLA women's volleyball opened pre-season training on Thursday, August 10, with 20 players on the roster including two transfer student-athletes and three incoming freshmen. Both transfers are sophomores in eligibility as Ali Daley played her freshman season at Long Beach State and Nikki Jagd opened her volleyball career at Pacific last fall.

Daley was named the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year for 2005 while earning two Big West Player of the Week honors at Long Beach State. Daley finished in the league's top-10 in kills with a 3.47 per-game average and was sixth in the league with a .314 attack percentage as an outside hitter last season. The 6-0 sophomore is a native of Grass Valley, Calif., and graduated from Nevada Union High School.

Jagd played in 38 games over 21 matches as a setter for Pacific in 2005. She played primarily as a serving specialist and a reserve setter, finishing the season with six aces. Nikki is the daughter of UCLA assistant coach Kim Jagd, is a native of Palos Verdes, Calif., and graduated from Palos Verdes High School.

"I am really pleased to be adding such quality depth to our team," said UCLA head coach Andy Banachowski. "Ali had a sensational year in the Big West last year, and we're looking forward to continuing her success in the Pac-10. Nikki will give us solid experience and depth at setter. She has a 'lot of smarts' coming from a family of coaches."

The Bruins opened pre-season training on Thursday with an on-campus practice and will spend next week training at altitude in Mammoth, Calif. UCLA, which has been picked second in the Pac-10 Coaches Poll and 10th in the AVCA's pre-season poll, opens its season on August 26 against Tennessee Tech in Cincinnati, Ohio.
