UCLA running backs coach Eric Bieniemy will remain a member of the Bruin football staff, it was announced today. Bieniemy, who has coached at UCLA the past two seasons, was a candidate for a position at the University of Texas.

"We are excited that Eric is staying at UCLA," said head coach Karl Dorrell. ""We feel he is one of the top young assistant coaches in the nation and I can't think of anyone I would rather have coaching our running backs."

"I am thrilled to be a Bruin," said Bieniemy. "I love being a part of this football program. I am thankful to Karl Dorrell for bringing me here two years ago and I appreciate the support he has given me during the decision process.

"We have great young men in the program and a great staff. I think the next few years will be outstanding ones for the Bruins and our fans. I am looking forward to coaching Maurice (Drew), Chris (Markey), Michael (Pitre) and the rest of our backs."

Bieniemy was approached by Texas head coach Mack Brown about coaching the Longhorn running backs. Discussions took place and professional and family factors were considered. Ultimately, Bieniemy decided that UCLA was the best place for him and his family.

"I want to thank Mack Brown and the University of Texas for considering me," he said. "Mack was first class all the way and the decision was a tough one. But, UCLA is where I belong and I am thrilled to be staying."
