Final Stats

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's volleyball team downed Arizona State in three games on Saturday night in Pauley Pavilion with game scores of 31-29, 30-16, 30-24. The Bruins improve to 13-3 on the season (5-2 Pac-10), while ASU falls to 6-10 (1-6 Pac-10). Three Bruins, Cira Wright, Brynn Murphy and Heather Cullen, finished with a team-high 13.5 points in the match.

The Sun Devils started quickly in game one, taking an early 13-8 lead. The Bruins came back to tie the game at 19-19 and took their first lead at 20-19. The lead went backand forth from there to the 22-22 mark, before a Heather Cullen service ace and two ASU attack errors gave UCLA a 25-22 lead. ASU would not go quietly, however, coming back to tie the game at 28-28. A Brynn Murphy kill gave UCLA its first game point at 29-28, but a Natalie Harris kill tied the game at 29 before a Heather Cullen kill gave UCLA its second game point and a block by Cira Wright and Cullen ended game one with UCLA taking the 31-29 decision.

In game two, the Bruins capitalized on a -.179 team attack percentage by Arizona State, sprinting to leads of 6-2 and 25-11. UCLA hit .281 as a team in the game and was led by Brittany Ringel, who had an error-free five kills on nine attacks for a .559 attack percentage in the game.

Game three saw UCLA take an early 4-1 lead before the teams traded points. Arizona State was within one point as late as 14-13, but UCLA then put together a three-point run and the Sun Devils were unable to close the gap as UCLA finished the match with a 30-24 game three victory.

UCLA out-blocked ASU by an 11-5 margin. The Bruins top blockers were Cira Wright with six (1 solo, 5 assists) and Heather Cullen with seven block assists. Offensively, Brynn Murphy had a team-high 11 kills and had just one attack error in the match, finishing with a .476 attack percentage. UCLA had eight service aces on Saturday evening, led by Cira Wright who had three consecutive aces early in game two.

UCLA returns to action on Thursday with a 7 pm match at Stanford. The Bruins will then travel to Berkeley, CA, for a Friday match-up with the Golden Bears.
