WALNUT CREEK, CA - UCLA sophomore 2B Caitlin Benyi (Scottsdale, AZ) was named the Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Arizona's Alicia Hollowell was named the conference Pitcher of the Week.
Benyi hit .600 for the week, going 9-for-15 in UCLA's four games. She had multiple hits in each of UCLA's games, totaling nine hits, five RBIs, four runs scored and a 1.400 slugging percentage. Benyi was also perfect defensively on 15 chances (8 PO, 7 A) at second base. Of her nine hits on the week, six were for extra bases, including three doubles and three home runs. She capped off her week with a 3-for-4 performance on May 9 at No. 7 Stanford, where she had two home runs, a double and four RBIs.
This is the second weekly honor for Benyi and the 80th all-time for UCLA.
The Bruins complete their regular season schedule this weekend with a Friday game agianst No. 1 Arizona at Easton Stadium, followed by a Saturday doubleheader against Arizona State that is scheduled for a 1 pm first pitch. UCLA has been selected to host an NCAA Softball Regional. The tournament field will be announced between 5:30 and 6 pm PT on Sunday, May 16, on ESPNews.
