Pac-10 Play Begins This Friday . . .
Eighth-ranked UCLA (7-3) will open up Pac-10 play this Friday, hosting Oregon State (6-5) at Drake Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Bruins have won the last two meetings and lead the all-time series 7-2. On Sunday, the Bruins will host Oregon (3-6-1) at Noon. UCLA leads that series 6-1, posting victories in its last four meetings with the Ducks.

Bruins Round Out Non-Conference Against Santa Clara . . .
UCLA went 1-1 last week, falling 2-1 to unranked Utah on Friday and then coming back on Sunday to defeat No. 15 Santa Clara, 1-0 in double-overtime. Those two meetings were the Bruins' final non-conference matches of the regular season. Against the Broncos on Sunday, defender Kendal Billingsley scored the only goal of the match in the 106th minute of action on a penalty kick. It marked UCLA's first-ever win over Santa Clara in six total meetings.

UCLA in the Rankings . . .
Despite going 1-1 last week, the Bruins' position in the polls didn't fluctuate all that much. UCLA dropped a spot (to No. 8) in the NSCAA/adidas poll and moved up a notch (No. 8 to No. 7) in Soccer America's weekly poll. Undefeated Notre Dame remains the top-ranked team in both major polls.

Castelanelli Rejoins Bruins . . .
Sophomore defender Mary Castelanelli played her first match in nearly a year last weekend. Her last match in a Bruin uniform was against Cal back on Oct. 19, 2003. Castelanelli, who was brought in to train with the U-19 U.S. National Team just last week, had been sidelined for most of last year due to a back injury.

Ellis One Win Away From No. 100 . . .
UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis stands just one win shy of the century mark, as she currently owns a 99-21-5 overall record in five-plus seasons at UCLA. Ellis, who was also the head coach at Illinois for two seasons (1997-98), owns an overall coaching record of 118-39-5.

UCLA in the Pac-10 Statistics . . .
Last season, the Bruins ranked No. 1 in nearly every statistical category in the conference statistics. This season, the Bruins head into Pac-10 play ranked second in corner kicks (60), tied for third in goals (20), fourth in points (57) and assists (17), and fifth in goals against average (0.88). UCLA is also rank tied for fourth in shutouts (5) and fifth in goals allowed (9).

Bruins vs. the NSCAA/adidas Top-25 . . .
UCLA owns a solid 4-1 record against teams ranked in the NSCAA/adidas Top-25. The Bruins' only loss came against No. 9 Virginia. Since that loss, UCLA has defeated No. 21 SMU, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 24 Pepperdine and No. 15 Santa Clara.

2004 Home Schedule Almost Complete . . .
Following this weekend's matches, the Bruins have just two more regular-season home contests. UCLA hosts the Bay Area schools in late October, with Stanford on Oct. 22 at 8:00 p.m. and Cal on Oct. 24 at Noon. The Bruins' final match of the regular season will be at USC on Nov. 7.
