San Diego, CA- The third-ranked women's soccer team visited San Diego Tuesday evening, coming away with a 2-0 victory in the Bruins' final non-conference match before Pac-10 play begins this Thursday. UCLA out-shot USD 34-5 en route to improving its record to 7-1-2. USD fell to 6-6-3 with the loss.
UCLA sophomore Iris Mora netted the first Bruin goal Tuesday in the 35th minute. Mary Castelanelli split the San Diego defense on the right side of the net and looped a perfect pass to Mora who beat Torero goalkeeper Libby Bassett from 10 yards out. The score remained 1-0 into the second half until UCLA freshman Bristyn Davis scored in the 57th minute to extend the Bruin advantage to 2-0. Davis bounced a rebounded attempt off the right post during a flurry of UCLA offensive chances.
The Bruins now improve their all-time record against USD to 8-1-2, having won the last four meetings.
UCLA still has two remaining matches this week, as the Bruins host Washington State on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. and Washington on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
