Oct. 14, 2001

Final Stats

Los Angeles - The second-ranked UCLA women's soccer team came back from a two-goal deficit to top visiting Arizona State, 3-2 Sunday at UCLA's Drake Stadium. With the victory, the Bruins keep their perfect record in tact and improve to 11-0 on the season and 2-0 in Pac-10 Play. With the loss, ASU falls to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

ASU's Antionette Marjanovic put the Sun Devils ahead 1-0 a little over eight minutes into the match when she launched a shot from about 25 yards out, beating UCLA goalkeeper CiCi Peterson into the top of the net. ASU took a 2-0 lead at the 26:39 mark when forward Stephanie Peel slipped behind the Bruin defense to chip a ball over Peterson from around the top of the box.

The Bruins scored their first goal in the 30th minute of the match when forward Mary-Frances Monroe grabbed up a loose ball in the middle of the ASU box to make the score 2-1.

Following a 2-1 ASU halftime lead, UCLA evened the match in the 50th minute of play when Bruin freshman Kendal Billingsley blasted a hard shot from about 18 yards out into the left corner of the ASU net.

Bruin forward and Hermann Award candidate Stephanie Rigamat scored the game-winning goal for UCLA at the 77:26 mark when she took a poor ASU clearance at the top of the box and put back in a shot from about 15 yards out.

Sunday marked the first time UCLA has given up more than one goal in any match this season. It was also the first time the Bruins have been behind in any match all year.

Despite the close score, UCLA dominated most of the match, outshooting ASU, 32-2. The Sun Devils made the most of their opportunities however, scoring goals on their only two shots of the game.

UCLA will face No. 6 Santa Clara this Thursday in Santa Clara before heading back home to take on USC on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1:00
