The sixth-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team was swept on Thursday night at Arizona, with game scores of 30-21, 37-35, 30-24. UCLA falls to 19-5, 10-4 Pac-10, while Arizona improves to 12-12, 6-7 Pac-10. The Bruins were led offensively by Colby Lyman, who double-doubled with 13 kills and 13 digs in the match.

UCLA started with a quick 4-0 lead in the opening game of the match, but the Wildcats were able to rebound, taking the lead at 16-15 and never looking back. UCLA hit .111 as a team in the opening game, and were led by Brynn Murphy and Colby Lyman with four kills apiece. The Wildcats, however, capitalized on their two sophomore stars as Kim Glass had eight kills and a .500 attack percentage and Jen Abernathy had seven kills of her own.

The Bruins and Wildcats fought closely throughout the second game of the match with neither team taking more than a three-point lead until Laura Kroneberger served the Bruins to a 25-22 lead on a five-point run late in the game. The Bruins had six chances to serve for the match, but were unable to convert, falling 37-35, allowing the Wildcats to take a two games to none lead into the locker rooms.

A six-point scoring run early in game three gave the Wildcats a 13-6 lead, and left the Bruins to play catch-up for the remainder of the game. The Bruins were able to pull within two points as late as 20-18, but were unable to close the gap any farther, falling in the third game 30-24.

Freshman Colby Lyman led the Bruins with 13 kills, 13 digs, three blocks and two service aces on the evening. Chrissie Zartman led the Bruins with 14 digs in the match.

The Bruins return to action on Friday night in Tempe, AZ with a 7 pm match against Arizona State.
