LOS ANGELES - UCLA hit .387 as a team for the match and posted a sweep of Oregon on Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion. Nana Meriwether and Brittany Ringel each had a team-high 12 kills in the match with game scores of 30-16, 30-24, 30-27. With the win, UCLA improves to 17-9 (10-6 Pac-10), while Oregon falls to 9-18 (1-16 Pac-10).
Following a short pre-game ceremony to honor UCLA's five seniors, the Bruins rattled off the first eight points of the match and never looked back, hitting .484 as a team and winning the opening game by a 30-16 margin. Game two was closer, with the teams tied as late as 7-7 before UCLA scored seven of the next eight points and never looked back. UCLA hit .304 in that game, led by Krystal McFarland and Brynn Murphy, who had five error-free kills apiece in the game.
Katie Carter was UCLA's big gun in the final game of the match, recording nine kills on 15 swings for a .467 attack percentage. As a team, the Bruins hit .404 and held off a late Oregon rally to close out the match with a 30-27 win.
For the match, the Bruins were led by Brittany Ringel and Nana Meriwether with 12 kills apiece. Meriwether led the Bruins with 13 points in the match, as she also had a service ace. Senior libero Chrissie Zartman led all players with 23 digs.
The Bruins return to action on Friday night at Washington State before traveling to Seattle to face top-ranked Washington on Saturday night.
