WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- UCLA sophomore forward Iris Mora has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 28-Nov. 3, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Mora, from Cancun, Mexico, helped lead then-No. 3/4 UCLA to shutout wins over crosstown rivals Loyola Marymount (Oct. 29) and USC (Nov.2). In the match against Loyola Marymount, Mora scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of play, and also tallied an assist en route to a 5-0 Bruin win. In the victory over Conference rival USC, Mora assisted on the first goal by teammate Lindsay Greco, and then notched the insurance score on a header in the 65th minute.
With the win over USC, the Bruins clinched at least a share of the 2003 Pac-10 title and have two Conference games remaining, against the Oregon schools. UCLA remains undefeated in Conference play at 6-0-1, with an overall record of 14-1-3. The Bruins, ranked No. 2 in this week's national polls, have posted three straight shutout victories and have shut out five of their last six opponents overall.
This is Mora's second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and UCLA's 11th weekly honor all-time.
