Arron Afflalo, Jordan Farmar Earn Coach John Wooden Award as UCLA's Co-MVPs at Annual Hoopsters Award/Dinner Banquet

UCLA starting sophomore guards and co-captains, Arron Afflalo and Jordan Farmar, were given the Coach John Wooden Award as the Bruins' co-Most Valuable Players Tuesday at UCLA's annual Hoopsters Awards/Dinner Banquet held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

Both first-team All-Pac-10 players, Afflalo and Farmar helped lead UCLA this season to the NCAA Championship game (first time since 1995), the Pac-10 Regular Season title (first time since 1997) and to the Pac-10 Tournament Championship (first time since 1987). In 2005-06, the Bruins tied the school record for most wins (32) and set the school mark for most games played (32-7, 39 games).

Afflalo was UCLA's leading scorer (15.8/17.1 in Pac-10 play), and averaged 4.2 rebounds and 1.77 assists. He scored in double figures 34 of 39 games, scored 20 or more points on 11 occasions, including a career-high 27 points vs. Arizona (Feb. 4) and led the Bruins in scoring 18 times. Along with his Pac-10 honor, Afflalo was an honorable mention AP All-American and earned first-team honors from the USBWA (Dist. IX) and the NABC (Dist. 15). Afflalo was also an All-Tournament selection at the Oakland Regional and All-Pac-10 Tournament.

Farmar was the Bruins' second-leading scorer (13.5) and led the Pac-10 in assists (5.11). A member of the NCAA All-Tournament teams in Oakland and Indianapolis, he was UCLA's leading scorer (12.5) in NCAA Tournament play. Farmar scored in double figures 26 times, including a career-high 28 points vs. Memphis in the NIT Season Tip-Off and he led the team in scoring 13 times. He led the team in assists in 23 of the last 27 games and in 30 of his 37 starts (including ties) and in steals on 17 occasions. He's a CollegeInsider.com All-American and first-team USBWA (Dist. IX) and NABC (Dist. 15). Farmar was on watch lists for the Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy and Bob Cousy Award.

During the evening's festivities, Afflalo was also given the Bob "Ace" Calkins Memorial Award/Free Throw Champion (129-160, .806) and the Irv Pohlmeyer Memorial Award/Outstanding Defensive Player (for the second year in a row).

Farmar also received the UCLA Alumni Association Award/Team Assist Leader (5.11/for the second year in a row).

Bruin freshman Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year who led the Bruins in rebounding (8.2) and led the conference in field goal percentage (134-249, .538), earned two honors - Seymour Armond Memorial Award/Most Valuable Freshman and Gerald A. Finerman Award/Team Rebounding Leader (8.2).

UCLA's two starting seniors- Cedric Bozeman and Ryan Hollins - also received awards Tuesday night. Bozeman was given the Elvin C. "Ducky" Drake Memorial Award for Competitive Spirit, Inspiration and Unselfish Contributions and Hollins got the Bruin Hoopsters J. D. Morgan Memorial Award for Outstanding Team Play.

Two Bruin freshmen received awards - Alfred Aboya earned the UCLA Faculty Athletic Representative Award/Academic Achievement and Team Contribution and Darren Collison got the Bruin Bench Basketball Award/Most Improvement in All-Around Play and Mental Attitude
