LOS ANGELES - The 21st-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team posted a three-game sweep of Washington State on Friday night in Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins posted a 30-17, 30-24, 30-26 victory over the Cougars, improving to 15-8 (7-6 Pac-10) on the season, while WSU falls to 8-19 (1-13) on the year. Three Bruins finished with double-figure kills in the match led by Kaitlin Sather with 16.

A 10-point UCLA scoring run with Sather at the service line gave the Bruins an early 13-fo lead, and the team would never look back. Sather led the Bruisn with six kills in the opening game and had a solo block and an ace in game one. In game one, the Bruins held the Cougar attack to a -.148 team attack percentage with five kills and nine errors on 27 attacks as a team.

Game two was tied as late as 17-all, but the Bruins held off the Cougars from that point en route to a 30-24 second game win. Nancy Barba hit .875 in game two, downing seven kills on an error-free eight attacks. Meriwether was part of two of UCLA's three blocks in the game, recording two block assists, while Rachell Johnson had three kills on four swings and a block assist in the game and Katie Carter contributed five kills, an ace, one solo block and a block assist in game two.

After the break, the Cougars came out fighting, holding a lead as late as 25-24, but UCLA would then put together a four-point run with Blair Socci at the line to take a 28-25 lead before putting away the game 30-26. In that third game, Sather had a team-high seven kills and Meriwether recorded one solo block and two block assists.

For the match, Sather had a match-high 16 kills, adding a service ace and a solo block for 18 points on the evening. Katie Carter matched that point total, scoring on 14 kills, two aces one solo block and two block assists. Also in double-figure kills on the night was Nancy Barba, who hit .600 on 13 kills with one error on 20 attacks. It is the 28th time in program history and the third time this season that a Bruin has hit .600 or higher with a minimum of 20 attacks. Barba accomplished the feat earlier this season at USC (.619) while Meriwether hit .650 on 20 atatcks on Sept. 8 vs. Cal State Northridge.

The Bruins return to action on Saturday night at 7 pm at Pauley Pavilion as UCLA takes on second-ranked and undefeated Washington.
