Bruins Begin NCAA Tournament Play This Friday

Bruins Earn No. 4 Seed in NCAA Tournament . . .
Second-ranked UCLA has been chosen as the fourth seed in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championships beginning this Week at schools across the country. The Bruins (16-1-3) will host the first and second rounds of the tournament at Frank W. Marshall Field at Drake Stadium beginning Nov. 14. UCLA faces San Diego (9-7-4) in the first round on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. The other first-round matchup that night will feature USC (9-7-4) taking on Pepperdine (13-5-1) at 5:30 p.m. Friday's winners will meet in the second round on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

UCLA vs. Local NCAA Opponents . . .
UCLA faced Pepperdine, San Diego and USC during the 2003 regular season, winning all three matches by the same score (2-0). UCLA is 5-2 all-time against Pepperdine, 8-1-2 against San Diego and 12-2-1 against USC. In NCAA Tournament matches, the Bruins are 2-0 all-time against USC and 1-0 all-time against San Diego and Pepperdine. It marks the second year in a row that both San Diego and USC have ended up at UCLA for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins defeated the Women of Troy, 1-0 in double-overtime in the second round a year ago.

Bruins Win 2003 Pac-10 Title Outright . . .
With an 8-0-1 conference record, the Bruins claimed the 2003 Pac-10 title outright. The Bruins, who were already guaranteed at least a share of the title heading into the final weekend, needed only one victory in its last two matches. UCLA swept the Oregon schools, defeating Oregon State, 3-1 and Oregon, 3-2 (2OT). It is the fourth Pac-10 title for UCLA and first since 2001.

UCLA Undefeated at Home in 2003 . . .
For the fourth time in the last five years UCLA finished the regular season undefeated at home, posting a 7-0-1 record. Since 1999, the Bruins are 26-3-1 in regular-season home contests. UCLA's overall home record the last five years, including postseason competition, is 35-5-1.
