LOS ANGELES - The second-ranked UCLA women's soccer team posted its second shutout in a row Friday evening, edging San Diego State, 1-0 in the Bruins' 2006 home opener at Drake Stadium. With the win, UCLA moves its record to 2-1 on the season. The Aztecs fall to 2-1 with their first loss of the year.

Freshman forward Kristina Larsen knocked in the game's only goal in the ninth minute of play off a deflected shot from fellow freshman Lydia Cook. Larsen grabbed the rebound in the box, slipping it past Aztec goalkeeper Cat Burson.

Larsen, who leads the team in scoring with four points on the year, also had the Bruins' lone goal in a 3-1 season-opening loss to No. 3 Penn State back on Aug. 25.

Bruin goalkeeper Ashley Thompson, who has started every match this season, finished with four saves on the night. Burson ended up with a match-high six saves. UCLA improves its overall record against San Diego State to 6-1-1.

UCLA returns to action on Sunday, hosting Long Beach State at Drake Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m. The 49ers are 3-0 on the year and have yet to give up a goal this season. It will mark only the second-ever meeting between the two teams, as UCLA posted a 3-0 victory over Long Beach State last season.
