Junior middle blocker Brynn Murphy (Coronado, CA/Francis Parker HS) of the UCLA Women's Volleyball Team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 8-14.
Murphy was named the MVP of the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational last weekend. She averaged 4.22 kills per game with a .479 attack percentage, three aces (0.33/game), 1.11 digs per game and 0.89 blocks per game as UCLA swept Texas-Arlington, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Texas to win the tournament title.
In UCLA's weekend opener against Texas-Arlington, Murphy had a match-high 14 kills while hitting .500 (14-1-26), scoring 15 points as she added two block assists. In the second match of the day, Murphy again had a team-high in kills with 13, hitting .423 with 2 errors and 26 attacks. She added five block assists, six digs and an ace in the match. In Friday's tournament finale against host Texas, Murphy turned in another solid performance with a team-high 11 kills and a .524 attack percentage. She was error-free, downing 11 kills on 21 attacks. She added two service aces, three digs and a block assist for a team-high 13.5 points.
This is Murphy's first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.

Soccer (six points in wins over UW-Milwaukee and Oakland); Justin Medlock, Football (two field goals provided winning margin in win over Illinois); Brett Ormsby, M. Water Polo (five goals in two games, including hat trick in win over Cal Baptist); Austin Ramos, M. Cross Country (fourth place at Aztec Invite).
