In a game between unbeatens the No. 2 Bruins lost a hard fought game to No. 1 Stanford. The Bruins got out to an early lead with a goal by Senior Maureen Flanagan, but the Cardinal were able to tie the game up with 2:43 left in the first quarter. Both teams were scoreless for the rest of the first half. The Cardinal scored first in the third quarter to take the 2-1 lead, but Flanagan would answer back with her second goal of the game to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the fourth quarter. The Cardinal were able to take a 4-2 lead heading into the final minute of the fourth quarter. UCLA's Ashley Stachowski would bring the Bruins to within one goal after she converted a 6 on 5 with fifty-five seconds remaining. The Bruins would have one chance left, but with twenty seconds the Cardinal stole the ball to seal the game.
For the Cardinal, Lauren Faust finished with two goals and Julie Gardner and Brenda Villa each scored once. Goalie Jackie Frank had eleven saves.
The Bruins finished the tournament with a 3-1 record and were lead in scoring by freshman Kelly Rulon who finished the tournament with five goals. UCLA will return to the pool on Wednesday, February 12th when they will travel to Irvine to play the twelfth ranked Anteaters at 4:00 PM. The Bruins first home game will be on Friday February 21st vs. No. 3 USC at 3:00 PM.
