Los Angeles - Well into their second week of preseason training, head coach Andy Banachowski and the 1999 UCLA Bruins women's volleyball team are on the move and preparing for their season-opening trip to Hawaii.
The first week of practice took place at Snow Creek Athletic Complex in Mammoth, and Banachowski describes it as "the best first week of practice we've ever had,"-- high praise, especially considering he has coached the Bruin women for 32 seasons.
The team has suffered no serious injuries thus far. Currently, the Bruin women are preparing for Sunday's Alumni Match (2 p.m., Wooden Center), which will feature former Bruins Julie (Bremner) Romias (setter for the 1991 NCAA Championship team), Michelle (Boyette) Morera (setter for the 1984 NCAA Championship team) and Jeanne (Beauprey) Reeves (All-American, and former UCLA Assistant Coach).
UCLA's regular-season schedule begins on Friday, Sept. 3, when the Bruins face Pittsburgh in the opening match of the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic.
