Top-5 Showdown Highlights 2005 UCLA Women's Cup
The UCLA women's soccer team is scheduled to host the UCLA women's Cup this weekend at Drake Stadium. Action begins on Friday with the third-ranked Bruins (4-0) taking on No. 4 Penn State (4-0) at 6:00 p.m. The Nittany Lions will be looking to avenge a 4-0 loss to UCLA in the 2003 NCAA Quarterfinals, the last meeting between the two teams. Friday's second match will feature Colorado (1-1-2) and USC (2-1) at 8:00 p.m. On Sunday, play begins with the first-ever meeting between UCLA and Colorado at 11:30 a.m. USC will take on Penn State at 2:00 p.m.

Bruins Get Two More Wins in Miami
UCLA is coming off a successful cross-country road trip after posting two victories at the Miami Tournament over the weekend. The Bruins opened up the tournament with a 1-0 decision over No. 14 Princeton, a rematch of last year's NCAA Semifinals which UCLA won 2-0. Bruin defender Mary Castelanelli scored the first goal of her career in the 62nd minute. The match was stopped 10 minutes later due to lightning in the area. UCLA came back to post a 2-0 victory over Florida Atlantic on Sunday. Sophomore Danesha Adams had both goals in that match, registering the fourth multiple-goal game of her career.

UCLA Remains at No. 3 in National Polls
The Bruins are currently ranked third behind Notre Dame and North Carolina in both the NSCAA/adidas and Soccer America national polls. Notre Dame is ranked first in the NSCAA/adidas poll, while North Carolina is Soccer America's No. 1 team. Soccer Buzz also has the Bruins at No. 3.

Lang Stars for Team Canada
Freshman forward Kara Lang did not make the trip to Miami last week with the Bruins, as she was back home playing for Canada in two friendlies against Germany. Although Canada dropped both matches, Lang scored in each contest against the defending World Cup Champions. She scored Canada's only goal in a 3-1 loss on Thursday in Vancouver. She tallied another strike in a tough 3-2 loss on Sunday in Edmonton.

Davis Duo Sees First Action in Miami
Both Bristyn Davis and Kelsey Davis saw their first action of the season against Florida Atlantic on Sunday. Kelsey, UCLA's much heralded freshman goalkeeper, made the start in the 2-0 Bruin victory. The Parade All-American from Thousand Oaks, had one save on the afternoon. Bristyn came in as a reserve against FAU, playing eight minutes. A second-team All-Pac-10 selection in 2004, she has been slowed by an injury suffered during the offseason.

Bruins Tabbed Pac-10, National Favorites by ESPN.com
Defending co-Conference champion UCLA has been voted as the favorite to win this year's Pac-10 women's soccer title, according to the Pac-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Aug. 16. The Bruins, who were also named the favorites in 2004, received eight of 10 first-place votes. Additionally, an article on ESPN.com's soccer website has UCLA picked to win this year's NCAA title.

Head Coach Jillian Ellis
Head coach Jillian Ellis is in her seventh season at the helm of the UCLA women's soccer team. The NSCAA/adidas National Coach of the Year in 2000, Ellis owns a 114-25-5 record at UCLA and is 133-43-5 overall.
