Bruin Women's Volleyball to Host NCAA First/Second Round Matches

Nov. 28, 1999

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The sixth-ranked Bruins have been selected by the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee to host a first and second round site for the 1999 NCAA Championship. Matches will be played at Pauley Pavilion on the UCLA campus on Saturday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 5. Both sessions will begin at 5 p.m. PT.

UCLA, the Pac-10 Co-Champions, hold a 25-3 record on the 1999 season, and will open tournament play against Eastern Washington (24-7). In the first game of Saturday's opening round session, Notre Dame (20-8) and Ohio State (16-11) will face off at 5 p.m.

All-Session passes will be priced at $10 for adults, $6 for students/youth, while single-session tickets will be $7 for adults and $5 for students/youth. All seating is general admission. To purchase tickets, contact the UCLA Central Ticket Office at 310/UCLA-WIN (825-2946).

The Bruins last hosted an NCAA women's volleyball match in 1995, defeating Ball State, 3-0 in a second-round match, after receiving a first-round bye. UCLA has won three NCAA Championships, in 1984, 1990 and 1991, all under the direction of current Bruin mentor Andy Banachowski. The Bruin women's volleyball team has never faced Eastern Washington or Notre Dame, and has a 6-1 all-time mark against Ohio State.
