LOS ANGLELES - Senior Traci Arkenberg, who led the UCLA women's soccer team to the Elite Eight, its best finish in school history, was named the school's female All-University Athlete tonight at the All-Sports Banquet, held in the campus' Faculty Center. Arkenberg, a first-team All-American, was a four-year starter for the Bruins and led the team with 22 goals and 52 points.
Robin Beauregard, who earned Freshman All-America honors while helping UCLA to its third consecutive National Championship in water polo, and Shakedia Jones, who finished second in the NCAA 100 meters and third in the 200 while leading the Bruins to a second-place finish, were co-winners of the Freshman of the Year award.
Track and field standout Nada Kawar was selected the Senior Scholarship winner. She has compiled a 3.906 grade-point average while majoring in Biology. UCLA also honored its 1997-98 individual NCAA champions - track & field's Seilala Sua in the discus, gymnast Heidi Moneymaker on the bars and gymnast Stella Umeh on the floor.
UCLA also honored the Athlete of the Year in each of its women's sports. Here are the winners:
