UCLA Head Coach Karl Dorrell

It was a hard fought game today

Offensively we had our lowest production in terms of rushing, but we were productive. Our passing game came alive. We really generated some offense through the air.

Defensively we did some good things early. The best thing about what happened is that we kept them out of the end zone. Our special teams played great we made some plays early in the game, the biggest play (the blocked punt) in the beginning of the game to get the momentum going in our direction.

The offense capitalized on the safety and scored and gave us a nine point lead fairly early in the game and we kept that lead. It was a good performance. We had a lot of work to do I'm happy with this win. It showed a lot of character and I'm pleased we've found a way to win a football game. And that's hard to do. I'll take an ugly win any day, compared to losing ugly. That was a good football team. It was a good hard fought Pac-10 win.

They play an 8 man front defensively which is hard to run the ball against. But they had single coverage on Lewis with the corner and with his size and athleticism he was able to produce.

We got a lot of help. That one catch where [Lewis] caught it at the five yard line and our offensive linemen gave him some help getting him in the end zone. It was great team effort, that type of production. It just shows you how excited these guys are about our offense.

Drew (Olson) played well. There was some concern from some people outside of our program, whether he was slipping a little bit. But he showed he's still capable of throwing the football. It was a great performance on his part. He made some great decisions and great throws. He generated the offense for us. The running game wasn't there with which we had great success in earlier games. That's the beauty of this offense. When some things don't work, we have something else to pick us up.

On four straight wins
It really helps. We are fortunate to be in the position we are in right now. We still have a lot of growing to do and the confidence is growing every week because we're still finding ways to win.

On Maurice Drew
Nothing happened to him. He just didn't have the type of game he has been having this season. We had hoped to utilize Chris Markey and get him some experience for future Pac-10 games.

On the defense
I've seen growth. We've improved from the beginning. We still have a lot to fix because there is no continuity. We have no mainstays on the defensive front, which is an example of having a young team.

"We got ourselves in a hole at halftime, down 23-3. We had nine penalties in the first half. It was just a lack of execution at critical times.

I thought our team was playing extremely hard, we just weren't playing extremely smart tonight and that hurt us.

We had some opportunities. They just converted on theirs and we didn't.

I think we did a good job limiting their running game but our pass defense was our Achilles heel tonight. Our kids played hard and the effort is always there it just hurts that we didn't play smarter and execute some things better.

On Marcedes Lewis
He made some unbelievable plays. He's a great player, I love his athletic ability at tight end and his range. He went up a couple of times when we were all over him and he made some great catches. He deserves a lot of credit, he single handedly got us tonight.

On Drew Olsen
He did some good things. He's a very good player, he's maturing nicely in their system because they run the ball so well. The running game sets up the passing game.
