CINCINNATI - The 10th-ranked UCLA womens' volleyball team completed an opening weekend sweep of three scheduled matches at the State Farm Bearcats Invitational presented by The Vernon Manor Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio, with a 3-1 win over host Cincinnati. Game scores were 30-24, 29-31, 30-27, 30-21. Nana Meriwether and Rachell Johnson were named to the All-Tournament team with Meriwether selected as the Tournament MVP.
Senior outside hitter Katie Carter led three Bruins in double figures with 17 kills and added five blocks (one solo, four assists) in the match. Kaitlin Sather downed 16 kills on the day, while Nana Meriwether had 15 kills, hit .406 for the match and had seven block assists in the contest.
Sophomore setter Nellie Spicer posted 58 assists in the match, adding nine digs and three blocks.
The Bruins held the Bearcats to attack percentages under .100 in the first and fourth games of the contest. Neither team had an attack percentage over .200 in any game of the match. UCLA out-blocked Cincinnati 15-10 and had 90 digs to Cincinnati's 83 on the day.
UCLA will return to action on Friday night at the Hawaiian Airlines Classic in Honolulu against Colorado.
