Los Angeles - The second-ranked UCLA women's soccer team received goals from Mary-Frances Monroe and Stephanie Rigamat, as the Bruins defeated visiting Arizona, 2-0 Friday evening at UCLA's Spaulding Field.
With the victory, UCLA remains undefeated on the season at 10-0 and notched its first Pac-10 win of the 2001 season. With the loss, Arizona falls to 3-6-1.
Following a scoreless first half, the Bruins got on the board in the 58th minute when Monroe gathered up a loose ball in the middle of the box to put UCLA ahead, 1-0.
Roughly three minutes later, UCLA struck again, as this time Rigamat received a ball from Whitney Jones and was able to chip it over Arizona goalkeeper Shannon Monti for the Bruins' second goal of the match.
Friday's victory was especially sweet for UCLA as it marked the return of Bruin defender Nandi Pryce, who played 27 minutes off the bench. One of the most highly touted freshmen in the country last year and a member of the Under-21 U.S. National Team, Pryce broke her leg just five games into last season. Friday marked her first game in a UCLA uniform since Sept. 8, 2000.
UCLA will be at home again this Sunday as the Bruins host Arizona State at Drake Stadium beginning at Noon. That match is a doubleheader with the UCLA men's team. The Bruin men will take on No. 2 Stanford at 3:00 p.m.
