Men's Soccer Shuts Out Oregon State, 1-0

Los Angeles, Calif. - The UCLA men's soccer team shut out its fourth consecutive opponent with a 1-0 Pac-10 Conference victory against Oregon State at Frank W. Marshall Field. The Bruins have been unbeaten in their last five games.

Sophomore forward Matt Taylor recorded the game's lone goal at the 7:26 mark, taking a cross from Adolfo Gregorio and beating OSU keeper Peter Billmeyer one-on-one from the right side.

The score was all UCLA would need, as the Bruin defense held the Beavers to just seven shots. UCLA had 10 shots. Goalkeeper Zach Wells made four saves and increased his consecutive shutout streak to 530 minutes. Billmeyer made five saves for the Beavers.

Both defenses played well, with one backline save by each team. In the 21st minute, Beaver defender Christian Van Blommestein cleared a Chadd Davis shot off the line after Billmeyer had been pulled out of the box. Bruin midfielder Brandon Kay also cleared an Aaron McHardy shot off the line in the 24th minute.

UCLA's record improves to 9-6-4, 4-2-1 in the Pac-10. Oregon State drops to 5-10-0, 1-5-0 in the conference. The league-leading Bruins will close the regular season with a home game against Washington on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2:00 pm.
