Brynn Murphy Named Pac-10 Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, CA - UCLA's Brynn Murphy has been named the Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week. Murphy, a junior from Coronado, CA, hit .286 while downing 43 kills (4.30 kpg) on 112 attack attempts with just 13 errors as UCLA won five-game matches at Washington State and No. 13 Washington.

On Thursday night in UCLA's televised match at Washington State, Murphy led the Bruins to victory with a then-career-high 21 kills (previous high was 17) to go along with a career-high 11 digs and career-high 25 points while tying her career high with two service aces. She hit .311 in the match, which was by far the highest attack percentage for any individual Bruin with more than one attack in the match. In game five, Murphy had three of UCLA's 11 kills for a .333 attack percentage, adding a block assist and a dig as UCLA took the win with a 15-10 game five win.

Murphy repeated her career-high performance on Friday night in Seattle, as she set a new career high for kills with 22 in UCLA's dramatic game-five win over Washington that featured a 24-22 fifth-game score. She was particularly impressive in game two against the Huskies, downing eight kills with a .467 attack percentage and recording a kill to give UCLA game point as the Bruins won the game 30-26.

For the weekend, Murphy averaged 4.30 kills/game with 112 attacks in her 10 games on the floor. She had 16 digs and seven blocks while leading the Bruins with 48.5 points in the weekend series. Murphy hit .268 for the weekend. The other members of UCLA's team combined to hit .166. This is the first weekly honor of Murphy's career and UCLA's 45th Player of the Week honor all-time.
