Feb. 19, 2003

UCLA starting sophomore guard Cedric Bozeman will not play Thursday (Feb. 20) when the Bruins host California in Pauley Pavilion in a Pacific-10 Conference game. A strained right shoulder will prevent Bozeman from playing.

Bozeman hurt the shoulder on Feb. 5 at USC and aggravated the injury last Saturday (Feb. 15) at Arizona State. He missed practice all this week, has been receiving treatment and rehabilitation and is on a day-to-day evaluation.

After 21 games, Bozeman, a 6-6, 197-pounder who was a 2001 McDonald's All-American as a senior at Los Angeles Mater Dei HS, is UCLA's fifth-leading scorer (7.3) and second on the squad in assists (3.2). He has started 17 games this season, including the last six contests. On Feb. 8, Bozeman's two free throws with 4.9 seconds left gave the Bruins a 71-70 win at Big East rival Georgetown, halting UCLA's nine-game losing streak.

On Wednesday, Bruin head coach Steve Lavin did not announce a new Bruin starting lineup and will make that decision on game day. On Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion, UCLA (5-16 overall/2-10 Pac-10, ninth-place) will host No. 18 California (18-4 overall/11-2 Pac-10, second-place) in a Pac-10 Conference contest.
