No. 9 Bruins to Host No. 24 Pepperdine This Friday

Bruins and Waves Meet Up This Friday . . .
The ninth-ranked UCLA women's soccer team (5-2) has just one match this week, as the Bruins are scheduled to host No. 24 Pepperdine (5-1-1) at Drake Stadium this Friday beginning at 7:00 p.m. UCLA has won the last six meetings, leading the all-time series 6-2. Friday's match is the beginning of a five-match homestand for the Bruins.

UCLA Posts Pair of Shutouts in Texas . . .
One week after losing both of its matches in Virginia, UCLA rebounded strong to defeat two ranked opponents in Texas over the weekend. The Bruins began the trip in Dallas, taking on No. 21 SMU. Goals by Kendal Billingsley and Bristyn Davis helped UCLA pull out a 2-0 victory. The Bruins traveled to College Station on Sunday for a showdown with No. 15 Texas A&M. Both teams played scoreless soccer until the 65th minute of the match, when Iris Mora, playing in her first contest of the year, scored to give UCLA the 1-0 victory.

UCLA in the Rankings . . .
UCLA made a significant jump in the NSCAA/adidas poll released Tuesday, moving from No. 20 to No. 9. The Bruins moved up two spots in the Soccer America poll, going from No. 12 to No. 10. Notre Dame is the top-ranked team in both major polls. Complete rankings at bottom of page.

Mora Stars in Return to Action . . .
It took All-American forward Iris Mora a little more than 64 minutes to make a significant impact with the Bruins this year after appearing in her first match of the season against No. 15 Texas A&M last Sunday. Her goal at the 64:26 mark gave UCLA a 1-0 win over the Aggies. Mora, who is on the Watch List for the MAC Hermann Trophy, was forced to sit out the first six matches of the season while completing class work in summer school due to missed time at the Olympic Games.

Adams, Davis Lead Bruins in Scoring . . .
Freshman Danesha Adams and sophomore Bristyn Davis are tied for the team lead in scoring with 13 points. Adams has six goals and one assist. She has also registered three game-winning goals. Davis has five goals and three assists. One of the two has registered either a goal or an assist in every match but one this season.

News & Notes . . .
Head coach Jillian Ellis is approaching her 100th victory at UCLA. She currently stands at 97-20-5 ...Along with being named to Soccer America's Preseason All-America Team, junior Jill Oakes was recently selected to the College Sports Television Preseason All-America squad. Junior forward Iris Mora was also named to the team ...In August, Mora was named one of 25 players named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, designating the early favorites for national player of the year ...Danesha Adams (8/31) and Kim Devine (9/7) have both been named Pac-10 Player of the Week this season ...Freshman goalkeeper Valerie Henderson has started all seven matches this year, owning a 1.02 goals against average. She is 5-2 with three shutouts and 22 saves ... Midfielders Stacy Lindstrom and Stephanie Kron are redshirting the season while playing with the Under-19 U.S. National Team.
