Minneapolis, Minn. - The UCLA women's rowing team fell to the University of Minnesota in Varsity Eight action today in a dual meet at Lake Phalen. The Bruins recorded a time of 6:50.1, 10-seconds behind the Gophers who finished in 6:40.2.
Rowing for the Bruins in the varsity eight was Jessica Rogers (stroke), Monica Grova, Christianne Bengard, Brooke Jordan, Dawn Regan, Liz Pallas-Jacobs, Elizabeth Felter, Irene Condella (bow), Emina Ong (cox). UCLA lost by a full boat length to Minnesota.
UCLA defeated the Golden Gophers in the novice race, which was the first event of the day. The Bruin Novice Eight team of Lindsey Hurban (stroke), Anja Wanberg, Nicole Schneiderjohn, Leah Racen, Lauren May, Shannon Packer, Kristin Bixel, Lora Batina (bow), Arianna Combs (cox) recorded a time of 7:15.0, 2-seconds ahead of the Minnesota First Novice Eight (7:17.34). Minnesota's Second Novice Eight finished in third with a time of 7:46.6.
UCLA only competed in the Varsity and Novice Eight races, but Minnesota held a Varsity Four race against each other. The Minnesota First Varsity Four won the race in 7:34.4. The other Varsity Four boat finished the race in 7:36.6 for second.
The UCLA women's rowing team returns to action on Saturday, May 3, as they host No. 7 USC (U.S. Rowing/CRCA poll) for points toward the Lexus Gauntlet Challenge.
