Bruins Kickoff 2004 Season at Home This Friday . . .
The UCLA women's soccer team opens up the 2004 season at Drake Stadium against San Diego this Friday beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Bruins have won five straight against the Toreros, including a 2-0 decision in the first round of last season's NCAA Tournament. UCLA leads the all-time series, 9-1-2. On Sunday, UCLA heads across town to face Loyola Marymount at Sullivan Field beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Bruins own a perfect 9-0 record against the Lions.
Oakes Named Preseason All-American . . .
Defender/Midfielder Jill Oakes is one of 11 players named to Soccer America's Preseason All-America Team announced this week. Oakes, a junior from West Hills, Calif., was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection in 2003, ending the season with four points (1g, 2a). She is coming off a summer in Iceland where she helped the Under-21 U.S. National Team capture its sixth-straight Nordic Cup title.

Bruins Begin the Year in National Top-10 . . .
UCLA starts the season ranked in the top-10 of both major polls. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has the Bruins at No. 9, while Soccer America has placed them at No. 10. UCLA ended 2003 ranked No. 3 in the final NSCAA poll. Defending national champion North Carolina is the top-ranked team in both polls.
Lindstrom, Kron to Spend 2004 Season in Thailand . . .
Midfielders Stacy Lindstrom and Stephanie Kron will be unavailable in 2004 due to commitments with the Under-19 U.S. National Team. Both players, along with teammate Bristyn Davis, were called up to the team last spring to help the U.S. qualify for the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championships held November 10-27 in Thailand. Davis helped the team qualify and is now back with the Bruins. Both Lindstrom and Kron will be making the trip to Thailand.
Familiar Faces . . .
Mexican Olympic Team member Iris Mora (F) leads a group of talented returnees in 2004. In addition to Mora, returnees Jill Oakes (D/MF), Kendal Billingsley (D), Lindsay Greco (F), Amy Fazio (D), Kim Devine (F), Bristyn Davis (F), Caitlin Ursini (MF) and Sarah Lombardo (GK) are just a few of the familiar faces hoping to give UCLA its second Pac-10 title in as many years.
New Bruins in `04 . . .
Goalkeeper Valerie Henderson, defender Brynn McGrath and forward Danesha Adams headline a list of talented incoming freshmen likely to see a lot of minutes in 2004. Lindsey Appezzato (MF), Alma Playle (MF), Brittany Dankworth (MF), Jennifer Sayles (F) and Ashley Thompson (GK) round out the freshmen class. Junior transfer Camille Toney (South Carolina) and senior Julie Hoshizaki, a four-year member of the Bruin softball team, also join the team this year.
