Running back Maurice Drew, defensive linemen Kevin Brown, Bruce Davis and Junior Lemau'u and safety Dennis Keyes head the list of 18 high school seniors who have signed football letters-of-intent to attend UCLA.

Drew, the SuperPrep Far West Offensive Player of the Year, rushed for 1,457 yards and 20 touchdowns and was selected to the Parade Magazine All-America team. Brown, who starred on both defense and offense; Davis, who made 65 tackles, including 12 quarterback sacks; Lemau'u, who made 89 tackles; and Keyes, who made 88 tackles and four interceptions, all made several All-America squads.

"We are very pleased with the young men of this recruiting class," said new head coach Karl Dorrell. "Not only are they quality players, they are quality people who will represent the University very well."

"Last month, our staff identified areas of need in terms of recruiting and I feel we did very well, especially considering the late start. It has been my experience that it usually takes two or three years to really be able to assess the quality of a recruiting class, but I feel that the young men who decided to be a part of this first class will be the beginning of something special here at UCLA."

Seven of the new Bruins were named PrepStar All-Americans, including defensive lineman Kevin Brown, defensive end Bruce Davis, running back Maurice Drew, wide receiver Alex Ghebreselassie, offensive lineman P.J. Irvin, safety Dennis Keyes and defensive lineman Junior Lemau'u, who was also named to PrepStar's Dream Team.

Six of the new Bruins were named to SuperPrep's All-America team, including K. Brown, Davis, Drew, Ghebreselassie, Keyes and running back Derrick Williams.

Sixteen of the signees were named to SuperPrep's All-Region teams, including cornerback Trey Brown, K. Brown, wide receiver Joe Cowan, Davis, offensive lineman Nikola Dragovic, Drew, defensive lineman Ghebreselassie, safety Chris Horton, Irvin, Keyes, Lemau'u, fullback Michael Pitre, defensive lineman William Snead, defensive lineman Noah Sutherland, defensive end Aaron Whittington and Williams.

Thirteen of the signees were named to PrepStars All-Region teams, including K. Brown, Cowan, Davis, Drew, Ghebreselassie, Horton, Irvin, Keyes, Lemau'u, Pitre, Sutherland, Whittington and Williams.

Davis was named a Tom Lemming All-American. Nine more new Bruins -- T. Brown, Cowan, Dragovic, Drew, Ghebreselassie, Irvin, Keyes, Whittington and Williams - were named Lemming All-Region choices.

The Bruins also signed defensive back Milvon James and 'athlete' Jimmy Stephens.

UCLA's members of the Long Beach Press-Telegram Best in the West team include Cowan, Keyes and Williams.

UCLA's members of the Tacoma News Tribune Western 100 include K. Brown, Cowan, Drew, Ghebreselassie, Irvin, Keyes, Lemau'u and Williams.

Five new Bruins - K. Brown, Davis, Drew, Irvin and Lemau'u - earned six stars from Max Emfinger. K. Brown, Drew, Keyes and Lemau'u earned four stars from The Insiders.com while K. Brown, Drew, Ghebreselassie, Irvin and Lemau'u earned four stars from Rivals.com.
