Sept. 16, 2002
Senior quarterback Cory Paus (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way HS) of the UCLA Football Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 9-15.
At Oklahoma State, Paus rallied the Bruins from a 10-0 deficit to a 38-24 victory. He threw three touchdown passes and ran for a fourth score, and three of the four touchdown drives measured at least 80 yards (80, 82 and 80). On the night, he completed 13 of 27 passes for 277 yards, three touchdowns and one interception (on his first pass of the game when his receiver slipped).
After OSU took a 10-0 lead, he calmly drove the Bruins 80 yards, capping the drive with a 41-yard strike to Craig Bragg. In the second quarter, he converted a fumble recovery into an 82-yard drive, hitting Mike Seidman for a 27-yard score on third-and-11.
On UCLA's first possession of the first half, Paus hit Ryan Smith with a 25-yard scoring pass, and after a Cowboy score, he engineered an 80-yard scoring drive, taking it in from the three-yard line for the fifth touchdown of his career. On the night, Paus completed passes to seven different receivers.
This is Paus' first UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and his career.
