WESTWOOD - The eighth-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team completed the weekend sweep on Saturday night, downing Arizona State 3-0 at Pauley Pavilion. Game scores were 30-19, 30-20, 30-24. With the win, UCLA improves to 7-2, 2-1 Pac-10, while ASU falls to 5-3 (1-3 Pac-10).
UCLA controlled the match throughout, as Kristee Porter and Lauren Fendrick recorded six kills apiece in the first game of the match. Fendrick had her six kills on just nine attacks for a .667 attack percentage to go along with six digs and two block assists.
It was more of the same in game two, as UCLA opened with a 7-0 lead behind the service of Ashley Bowles. Porter contributed 11 kills in game two alone, as the Bruins hit an impressive .417 as a team in game two, with just three service errors.
Game three saw a variety of UCLA players see action, including freshmen Brittany Ringel and Heather Cullen. UCLA continued its strong offensive performance, hitting .326 in the third and final game of the match.
For the match, three Bruins posted double-figure kills, led by Porter who hit .400 with 22 kills on 40 attacks to go with three service aces, three block assists and eight digs. Also in double-figures were Fendrick, who hit .560 with 15 kills on 25 swings with just one error, with none digs and three block assists. Bowles double-doubled on the evening with 10 kills and 13 digs, while Angela Eckmier led the Bruins in blocks for the second graight night, posting five block asssits.
UCLA returns to action on Thursday night in Seattle, WA, as the Bruins face off against Washington at 7 pm. UCLA will then travel to Pullman, WA, for a 7 pm match against Washington State.
