Box Score

Raleigh, N.C. - The UCLA baseball team registered its first three-game series road sweep since 2000 with a 13-2 pounding of No. 17 NC State on Sunday afternoon at Doak Field. Five different Bruins homered as UCLA posted season highs of 13 runs and 18 hits to improve to 9-9, while the Wolfpack dropped to 13-4.

Six Bruins had multiple hits, led by senior Chris Jensen who went 2-for-5 from the plate with a three-run home run, a double and four RBI, and senior Brett McMillan went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored.

Junior Tim Stewart had a 3-for-6 performance at the plate with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored, and senior Sean Smith went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and a double.

Freshman Brandon Crawford went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored, senior Josh Roenicke went 3-for-6 with a run scored, and junior Hector Ambriz had a two-run home run.

Junior Tyson Brummett tossed a gem for the Bruins, going 8.0 innings with a season-best 12 strikeouts, allowing just one earned run on six hits and no walks.

UCLA faced Wolfpack starter Andrew Brackman, a 6-foot-10 sophomore right hander who also starts at forward for the NC State men's basketball team. The Bruins posted five runs on Brackman in 2.1 innings on four doubles and two home runs, as the Wolfpack lost for the first time in a game that Brackman had pitched in.

UCLA broke out the bats in the third inning and exploded with a season-high seven runs in an inning to take a 7-0 lead over the Wolfpack. Crawford got it started for the Bruins with a one-out double down the right field line. Freshman Jermaine Curtis was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for UCLA. Jensen followed with a three-run blast to right field to put the Bruins up 3-0. Stewart kept the momentum going with a double down the left field line, and Ambriz followed with a two-run home run to center field to give UCLA a 5-0 cushion. Senior Anthony Norman reached on a walk to bring up Smith who connected on the first home run of his career as a Bruin to left field to put UCLA up 7-0.

NC State got on the board in the third inning on a RBI single through the right side by Matt Camp to score Jonathan Diaz who doubled down the right field line.

Stewart put the Bruins up 8-1 in the fourth inning on a solo jack to center field with two outs, and added a RBI single down the left field line in the sixth inning to score Crawford from third and put UCLA up 9-1.

UCLA added three more runs in the seventh inning on a pinch hit two-run double to left center by McMillan, and a RBI double by Jensen down the left field line to pick up McMillan from second base and give the Bruins a 12-1 advantage.

The Wolfpack scored another run in the seventh inning on a RBI single by Drew Martin to score Caleb Mangum from third to put the score at 12-2.

McMillan hit a solo home run to center field to lead off the top of the ninth inning and give UCLA a 13-2 lead.

The UCLA pitching staff ended NC State third baseman Matt Mangini's 16-game hitting streak, as Mangini entered the series hitting .673.

UCLA will next travel to Malibu, Calif., to face No. 12 Pepperdine on Tuesday, March 7 at 2 p.m.
