The top-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team, which swept No.9 Lewis Wednesday night, returns to conference play this weekend to host No.14 Pacific and No. 7 Stanford.
The Bruins (17-3, 11-2) meet Pacific (6-12, 4-10) Fri., Mar. 8 at 7 p.m. and face Stanford (10-7, 9-5) on Sat., Mar. 9 at 5 p.m. Both matches will be played in Pauley Pavilion.
UCLA also hosts Concordia College of New York on Tues., Mar. 12 at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
Saturday's match against Stanford will be carried live on uclabruins.com.
Against Lewis, the Bruins welcomed the return of freshman outside hitter Jonathan Acosta, who responded by leading the team with 13 kills and hitting at a .611 clip.
"Jonathan started out a little tentative, but by Game 3, he was hitting the ball hard," UCLA Coach Al Scates said.
Four other UCLA players registered double-digit kill totals, and senior Matt Komer served five aces against the Flyers.
"Matt was hot. He could have hit any place on the floor tonight," said Scates.
On Feb. 15, The Bruins defeated Pacific, 3-1, in Stockton behind Komer's 20 kills and 18 by junior Cameron Mount. Friday night, the Bruins will be looking to extend their series dominance against the Tigers. To date, they lead the series, 13-0.
On Feb. 16, Stanford upset UCLA, 3-1, in Maples Pavilion. All-American Curt Toppel led the Cardinal with 18 kills, and Komer and Mount added 18 and 14 kills, respectively, for the Bruins. Stanford's victory was its third in the last four matches against UCLA. Last season, the Cardinal won both league matches against the Bruins, only to lose, 3-2, in the first round of the MPSF playoffs. The Bruins lead the series, 48-10.
