UCLA Ranked In Pre-Season Football Magazines

The first three college football magazines have hit newsstands and all three have ranked UCLA between No. 20 and No. 29. All three have placed the Bruins third in the Pac-10.

The Sporting News has UCLA ranked the highest at No. 20. Athlon has the Bruins listed at No. 22 while Lindy's ranks them at No. 29.

In terms of Bruin opponents, Athlon has ranked Alabama No. 3, Michigan No. 4, Washington No. 8 and USC No. 15. Lindy's has ranked Alabama No.4, Michigan No. 6 and Washington No. 14 while The Sporting News has Alabama No. 3, USC No. 9, Michigan No. 12 and Washington No. 16.

Defensive end Kenyon Coleman and offensive guard Brian Polak were named second-team All-Americans by The Sporting News. That magazine also rated rated UCLA's defensive line as the fifth unit in the nation (second in the Pac-10), its receiving corps 11th nationally (first in the Pac-10), its offensive line 12th in the nation (second in the Pac-10) and its linebackers 12th nationally (third in the Pac-10).

Offensively, tailback DeShaun Foster was selected first-team All-Pac-10 by The Sporting News and Lindy's. Polak was selected second-team All-America by The Sporting News and first-team All-Pac-10 by The Sporting News and Lindy's. Wide receiver Freddie Mitchell was selected first-team All-Pac-10 by The Sporting News and Lindy,s, the latter as an all-purpose player. Wide receiver Brian Poli-Dixon was selected first-team All-Pac-10 by Lindy's and second-team All-Pac-10 by The Sporting News. Guard Oscar Cabrera was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection by Lindy's.

Defensively, Coleman was selected second-team All-America by The Sporting News and first-team All-Pac-10 by The Sporting News and second team by Lindy's. Tackle Ken Kocher and linebacker Robert Thomas were second-team All-Pac-10 selections by Lindy's.
