Senior Among Finalists

April 4, 2003

ALBUQUERQUE, NM --- The Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) is proud to announce the three men, including UCLA senior Jason Kapono, and three women finalists for the Creamland Dairies Men's & Women's Collegiate Basketball Student-Athlete of the Year award.

The six finalists will be present in Albuquerque, NM on April 9, 2003 at the awards banquet to be held at the Albuquerque Marriott Hotel. Jimmy Dykes, College Basketball Analyst for ESPN will emcee the event.

"We are extremely proud of the finalists for this award," said Dan Ballou, Director of Sports Marketing for ACVB. "It was a tough process of elimination because of the number of deserving student-athletes, yet the six finalists are the young people of character we were looking for when we created this award."

The following are the three men and three women semi-finalists for the Creamland Dairies Men's & Women's Collegiate Basketball Student-Athlete of the Year:

Matt Bonner, Florida
Matt was named First-Team All-SEC by both the league coaches and the Associated Press. He was recognized as the Verizon Academic All-American of the Year for men's basketball and earned first-team Academic All-America honors for the third consecutive year. Matt was the leading scorer at Florida this season and is 8th on the all-time scoring charts at Florida.

Jason Kapono, UCLA
Jason is the first player in UCLA history to lead the team in scoring for four-consecutive seasons and to earn First-Team All-Pac 10 honors for four-consecutive seasons. He is just the fourth person in Pac 10 history to accomplish that feat.

Omar-Seli Mance, Rice
Omar is a District VI All-Academic honoree, eligible for NCAA Academic All-America status and earned Second-Team All-WAC honors. He served as team captain and was the team's second leading scorer.

Allison Curtin, Tulsa
Allison earned First-Team All-WAC honors and is a District VII candidate for the Kodak All-America Team. She averaged 23.1 points per game, ranking in the top 10 in the nation and was selected to play in the 2003 WBCA All-Star Challenge.

Tiffany Kyser, IUPUI
Tiffany has been recognized as a Verizon First-Team Academic All-American and is a National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics National Scholar-Athlete. She has been named Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Year.

Alicia Rattay, Notre Dame
Alicia is a three-time All-Big East honoree, two-time Associated Press honorable mention all-American and 2003 Airopostale/Big East Scholar Athlete of the Year. She is also a two-time Verizon Academic All-District V second team winner and the 4th leading scorer in the history of Notre Dame women's basketball.

This new award will be presented for the first-time to honor one male and one female basketball student-athlete who has made a commitment to achievement on the playing field, in the classroom and in their community.
