Athletic Director Peter Dalis
"This morning, there was a conference call with the senior administration of both schools, including Miami president Edward "Tad" Foote and UCLA chancellor Albert Carnesale and both athletic directors. At that time, a decision was reached to cancel the UCLA-Miami football game because the potential conditions posed by the threat of Hurricane Georges were too great to put the young men and staffs of both schools at risk.
"This decision was a mutual one between the senior management of both schools."
Dalis also pointed out that the Flordia Marlins had cancelled their baseball games scheduled for this evening and that some of the major airlines had cancelled their flights to Miami.
