UCLA assistant women's volleyball coach Dave Fleming has been hired as the new women's volleyball coach at Mesa State College. MSC is an NCAA Division II institution in Grand Junction, Colo.

Fleming served as an assistant coach for the Bruins for four years in which the team compiled a record of 86-43, three trips to the Elite 8 NCAA Championships and four NCAA Tournament berths. Fleming's primary responsibility was as defensive coordinator and coaching the outside hitters. Before arriving at UCLA, Fleming was a member of the coaching staff for the Women's National Team, which played in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. In 1995 the team competed in the World Grand Prix and won the gold medal, the first gold won by the USA women's team in a major international competition.

Fleming spent five years as the Services Manager and Systems Integrator for ARK Sports Technologies. The California company provides digital video and statistical systems to sport companies.

Fleming will replace Rusty Crick who retired after 23 seasons at the helm of the women's volleyball program. Fleming will become just the fourth head coach in MSC history. During Crick's tenure the Mavericks posted a 563-286 (.663) overall record, eight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference titles and two national tournament appearances (1994-NIT, 2004-NCAA DII).

"Dave was an integral part of the Bruin program and our successes," said UCLA head coach Andy Banachowski. "He will be missed by all."
