The top-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team, which swept USC Wednesday night, travels to Malibu Saturday, Mar. 30, for a conference showdown against Pepperdine at 7 p.m.

The match will be broadcast live on with Lou Riggs, Mike Sondheimer and Paul Nihipali calling the action.

The Bruins (22-3) and Waves (20-4) are tied for first place in the MPSF standings with 15-2 records. The Bruins own a nine-match winning streak. Pepperdine boasts an eight-match streak after a pair of convincing four-game victories over No.3 Hawaii last weekend.

The rivals have split two matches this season: Pepperdine won, 3-0, on Jan. 12 in the UC Irvine Tournament, and the Bruins avenged that loss with a 3-2 triumph at Pauley Pavilion on Feb. 7.

In the last several years, UCLA has enjoyed surprising success in Pepperdine's arena. The Bruins have won seven of the last 10 matches at Firestone Fieldhouse, including four straight. On Feb. 3, 2001, the Bruins defeated the Waves, 3-1, to give Coach Al Scates his 1,000th career victory.

Pepperdine's last victory at home against the Bruins came on Feb. 13, 1997 in a three-game sweep.

"This will be a great match," said UCLA Coach Al Scates. "It's No.1 vs. No.2 and it doesn't get any better than that."

"Pepperdine and UCLA have a long and storied tradition in men's volleyball, and I anticipate a hard-fought match on Saturday night," said Pepperdine Coach Marv Dunphy. "

The Bruins' three-game loss to the Waves on Jan. 12 was the second match of a double-header following a four-game victory over USC in the UC Irvine Tournament. The Waves served eight aces to the Bruins' one and scorched the Bruins for a .398 attack percentage.

In the Feb. 7 rematch, Pepperdine lost by a total of six points, despite out-serving the Bruins, 9-2, in aces. UCLA won 17-15 in the fifth game when Pepperdine senior Brad Keenan committed a hitting error at match point to give the Bruins the victory.
