The UCLA Bruins will be well represented in Super Bowl XXXVIII, to be played in Houston, TX on February 1. This will be the 24th time in 25 years UCLA has produced a Super Bowl player.

Three Bruins are on the roster of the NFC Champion Carolina Panthers. Second-year running back DeShaun Foster, who missed his rookie year with a knee injury, rushed for 60 yards on 14 attempts and scored one of the Panthers' two touchdowns in the NFC title-game win over Philadelphia. Rookie cornerback Ricky Manning made three interceptions in the victory over the Eagles after making an interception to set up the game-winning touchdown versus the Rams. Rookie tight end Mike Seidman is also on the roster, but he has been sidelined due to knee surgery.

The Panthers will face AFC Champion New England in the Super Bowl. Linebacker Roman Phifer, now in his 13th year in the NFL, will be starting in his second Super Bowl in the last three years for the Patriots. In addition, wide receiver J.J. Stokes, a nine-year vet who played for the Patriots earlier this season, was added to the roster on Saturday.

UCLA has set several Super Bowl 'firsts'. Troy Aikman is the only quarterback in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a four-year span (Dallas). Linebacker Ken Norton is the only player in NFL history to play for three consecutive Super Bowl champions (Dallas twice, San Francisco once). Defensive lineman Mike Lodish is the only player to play for six Super Bowl teams (Buffalo four, Denver two).
