Senior right-handed pitcher Casey Janssen (Huntington Beach, CA/Fountain Valley HS) was named the Pacific-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week, Comissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Janssen threw his first career complete game on Friday night as UCLA defeated 14th-ranked Washington, 3-1 in Seattle. The Bruins went on the win the series with a 4-3 win on Sunday. He held the Huskies to one run on six hits in the contest. He struck out eight batters on the night and walked only one. Janssen allowed the lone Washington run in the first inning and went on the throw eight scoreless innings to follow. He also struck out four batters over the last three frames.
On the season, Janssen leads UCLA with a 9-3 record. He has struck out 91 batters in 101.2 innings of action. He ranks among the top five in the Pac-10 in ERA, opposing batting average, and strikeouts.
The honor marks the second career award for Janssen, who was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week last year on May 12th. It is also the second consecutive honor for UCLA after Wes Whisler earned the same award last week.
