DeShaun Foster Declared Ineligible by UCLA

Nov. 7, 2001

Senior tailback DeShaun Foster has been declared ineligible for competition by UCLA and will miss Saturday's game against Oregon, it was announced today.

On Tuesday, the NCAA made UCLA aware of a possible "extra benefits" violation by Foster. Following a meeting between Athletic Director Peter Dalis, a member of the NCAA Enforcement Staff and Foster, UCLA declared Foster ineligible for competition. That is standard procedure in "extra benefits" situations.

As soon as complete information is gathered, UCLA will submit a report that includes the facts of the case and a request that Foster's eligibility be restored. There is no timetable for reinstatement, but the standard penalty in "extra benefits" cases of this type is 10 percent of the season (one game).

"We were made aware by the NCAA of a possible violation in connection with DeShaun and have had to declare him ineligible for this week's game," said Dalis.
