T. J. Cummings, Dijon Thompson Given Coach John Wooden Award (Team Co-MVPs) At UCLA's Annual Dinner/Awards Banquet

Senior T. J. Cummings and junior Dijon Thompson were given the Coach John Wooden Award (UCLA's co-MVPs for the 2003-04 season) Wednesday at UCLA's annual awards/dinner banquet at Covel Commons on the Bruin campus.

Cummings, a 6-9, 215-pound forward from Homewood-Flossmoor, IL HS, started 23 of 24 games and averaged 29.7 minutes a contest. He was UCLA's No. 2 scorer (12.8) and No. 1 rebounder (6.7), who shot 55.2 (128-232) from the field and a team leading 86.3 (44-51) from the foul line. Cummings led the Bruins in scoring eight times and in rebounding on 12 occasions, including two of the last four games. He had five double-doubles (points/rebounds, the Bruins were 4-1 in those games), scored in double figures on 21 occasions (ended the season with 11 straight), with a season-highs of 22 points vs. Washington (1/10) and 12 rebounds vs. Arizona State (1/15). A 2004 Pac-10 Honorable Mention selection, in the conference's final statistics (all games), Cummings was the league's No. 16 scorer (12.8), No. 10 rebounder (6.7/No. 7 defensive rebounds, 4.67) and No. 6 in field goal percentage (55.2, 128-232).

Thompson, a 6-7, 197-pound guard/forward from Redondo Union HS, last season started 27 of UCLA's 28 games, including all 18 Pac-10 contests, and was UCLA's leading scorer (14.4). He was second on the team in minutes (33.2) and assists (2.3), tied for third in rebounding (4.3) and shot 43.5 (146-336) from the field, 38.3 (49, team leader-128) from three-point range and 78.2 (61-78) from the foul line. He led the Bruins in scoring 12 times, including two of the last three games, scored in double figures on 25 occasions and had season-highs of 25 points vs. Oregon State (3/4) and nine rebounds vs. Vermont (11/29). A 2004 Pac-10 Honorable Mention selection, in the conference's final statistics (all games), Thompson was the league's No. 11 scorer (14.4).

Cummings was a double award recipient - also receiving the Bob "Ace" Calkins Memorial Award as the team's top free throw shooter (86.3, 44-51).
